  • History and tradition

    Thomas Jefferson High School, usually referred to as Jefferson High School, is the fourth oldest high school in LAUSD. Located in South Los Angeles, its surrounding communities are Downtown, Florence, Historic South-Central and South Park. Jefferson's school colors are Kelly Green and Gold and the sports teams are called the Democrats or Demos for short. The Mascot is a man dressed in an outfit that was worn by Politician’s during the earlier time period of this country.

    Construction Update Bulletin February 2022

    PROJECT SCOPE:
    Construct new buildings and site improvements with 31 general and specialty classrooms, instructional support spaces, gym with practice and competitive spaces, lunch pavilion, an expanded space for Wellness Clinic relocation, M&O area, concessions, baseball/softball field, tennis & basketball courts, and football field lighting. Upgrade existing school facilities including modernization and seismic retrofit of administrative and main classroom buildings; seismic retrofit of cafeteria building; and programmatic access to auditorium building. Remaining buildings will receive minor interior classroom improvements and exterior paint. Also, we’ll demolish the following buildings: music, home economics, two gyms, metal shop, mechanical arts, powerhouse (utilities), industrial arts, lunch shelter/service, and 30 classrooms located in relocatable buildings. Will upgrade existing infrastructure such as utilities, safety and security systems, and technology networks, and improve programmatic access and landscape/hardscape areas.

    PRE-CONSTRUCTION WORK COMPLETED:
    • 30 temporary classrooms, 1 temporary locker and shower building, 2 temporary restrooms, 1 temporary kitchen, multipurpose area and new shade structure
    • New electrical service for existing buildings
    • New gas service to support the future
    Comprehensive Modernization project
    • Demolished existing Gym, Mechanical Arts, and Powerhouse buildings
    • New underground infiltration basin and underground storm drain lines
    • New underground water, sewer, & fire water line and new networking equipment room

    CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE:
    CONSTRUCTION START: 2nd Quarter 2022
    PROJECTED COMPLETION: 2nd Quarter 2026
